Design Challenge: To integrate and leverage the aerodynamic elements essential to on-track excellence and efficiency with the BMW design vocabulary.
Design Solution: This project provided the unique opportunity to integrate specific BMW design elements and form language into a modern carbon fiber racing chassis. The design process was heavily interdependent with aerodynamics and the engineering of the monocoque chassis, as the outer surfaces of the structural monocoque, or "tub," actually comprise the much of the bodywork surfaces.
As a visual expression of its proud heritage, the front wing mountings carry the trademark BMW kidney shape.
BMW Williams F1 driver Ralf Schumacher is a graduate of Formula BMW and was present at the Frankfurt Auto Show to launch the new car along with BMW Motorsport's Gerhard Berger.
