Refreshed, Restored and Recharged on Arrival.
Design Challenge: DesignworksUSA, with its expertise in "modern luxury", was approached by a major German airframe manufacturer to design a new generation of interiors for private business aircraft. The vision – to adapt to the new trend of fleet management and fractional ownership. With the targeted audience of large transnational corporations, the interior had to be spacious and elegant, but not ostentatious; a plane that was attractive to corporate managers, both as an investment and as a signal of the status of their corporate brand. The plane was to embody modern luxury.
Design Solution: We knew that this demographic held strong expectations of perfection. We would have to balance rigorous cost, weight and safety restrictions with expansive goals of facilitating seamless corporate travel and requisite levels of luxury and status.
The design language for the whole cabin emphasizes luxury, efficiency and status of executive air travel. Design elegance is supported in all the details. The seats are lean and sporty. The upholstery is spare and lightweight, supporting the human body at the precise contact points where it needs support. Bright natural light is augmented by recessed halogen bulbs with daylight color temperatures, and soft, indirect fluorescent lighting. Different areas of the plane are marked by semi-transparent, glass-like resin dividers. The table tops are clear as well, implying motion and airiness, avoiding the effect of cutting the interior into rigid sections. All surfaces and forms are commanding and assertive, yet restrained and dignified.
