Themes in Flight
Design Challenge: DesignworksUSA with its expertise in developing color and material concepts for the highly regulatory automotive industry was given the task to develop an interiors Color and Material program for Pilatus Aircraft Ltd. The focus of the program was to develop an interior color and material concept solely for the appropriate markets of the Pilatus PC-12.
Design Solution: Our design solution was structured around FAA approved materials for aircraft applica-
tions. The focus was to create color and material themes appropriate to Pilatus identified target groups.
We explored themes vital to the Pilatus brand, the established culture, the contemporary mindset and the notion of modern balance. These themes were transferred into three main design packages; the traditional elegant Classic Theme, the international performance Active Theme, and the design style Modern Theme.
The design packages incorporated an array of items from seating, to flooring and carpeting, wall covering, partitions and bulkhead as well as all the accent treatments.
Each theme was supported by inspirational imagery, reflecting a thematic atmosphere. And finally, a supplier reference chart was created delineating material reference information. These presentations of the matching the materials help the buyer make selecting an interior easier.
