Design Challenge: To create a concept design which will promote Intel's new PMP processor. Our task was to design a "show product" to bring visual life to this new technology and to showcase the product potential for Intel's OEMs. Our goal is always to balance technology, design, and customer value, and this project will fulfill that goal without ever going into production.
Design Solution: DesignworksUSA took a "No holds barred" approach to its design direction, applying our very dynamic and motion driven form language as seen in automotive design to Intel’s highly flexible and accelerated PMP technology. The result created a real fascination and intrigue for the manufacturers and film industry.
The PMP design combines twisting and converging surfaces balanced with clean horizontal and vertical lines upon which to reference the controls. All of the buttons are arrayed in ergonomic fashion for the intuitive sweeping motion of one single thumb around the 5-way cursor. This area defines a visual focal point created by the intersection of the grip and display boundaries. The grip side is generously curved with a rear crease for adhesion and control. The top frontal area tapers left into a bevel to reduce visual mass and thickness.
Through our creative diversity DesignworksUSA helps clients maximize the impact and the value of new product market opportunities.
