Super Hero of the Slopes
Design Challenge: How does a company known for traditional skiing attract the younger, cutting-edge snowboarding market?
Design Solution: You start with attitude. For Scott USA we began the process of designing snowboarding goggles by analyzing skulls from performance animals such as cats and hawks. We then translated the furrowed brow aesthetic, which conveys energy, focus and aggression into the form of the product. Continuing the assertive theme, we fashioned structural truss-like ribs to connect the lens flange to the face flange, which also enhanced the durable aesthetic.
On the functional side, we improved safety in a variety of ways. First, we reduced tunnel vision by pulling the lens flange closer to the face to improve peripheral vision in both major and minor axes. This innovation was only possible because of our unique "Ramm air" system, which allowed us to reduce both internal volume and otherwise common problems of fogging. Put one way, "visionary design designed better vision." Finally, we outfitted the Source goggle with an innovative strap attachment mechanism enables the goggle to fit tight to the face with or without a helmet. Style. Safety. Flexibility.
